What can be better than a vacation? Well, until now, nothing. Home2Suites by Hilton in D’Iberville, Mississippi proved that vacation can get a little sweeter. Imagine checking into a hotel and sharing your bed with a complete stranger and then bringing them home to be yours forever. Sounds super creepy, right?

Think again.

Home Is Where The Dog Hair Is

This Home2Suites is allowing guests to share their hotel room with rescue dogs! They have partnered with the Humane Society of South Mississippi and started the Fostering Hope program to give these delightful doggies a second chance. Hotel guests have the option to snuggle up at night with the four-legged guest of honor. Or, guests can opt to take the pups for a walk or a game of fetch.

“(The guests) were missing something, I could see it. They were missing home, and they were missing animals. I thought, ‘Why can’t we put the two together?'” Teresa Johnston, director of sales at the hotel, told Insider.

Pawsitively Amazing Results

The hotel has one lucky dog on-site at a time. They have found homes for 60 dogs since the idea took off in 2018! That’s including the four staff members who fell in love with their new BFFs on the job and took them home. If you visit and feel like welcoming that dog into your home, don’t spend one second feeling bad for taking that lucky pup from the other guests. There is always another waiting for their turn with a wagging tail!

“They have a lot of transient guests who stay for months at a time near our army and navy bases and that’s just enough time to fall in love with a dog,” Bianca Janik, the Humane Society’s relations manager, told USAtoday.com.

Having a dog there gives guests a sense of home that no amount of fluffy pillows or continental breakfast can replace. Plus, science says sharing a bed with a dog is good for our health. Can’t argue with that! Who doesn’t want good sleep on vacation?

All of the dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped and given a heartworm preventative. People who wish to make their love permanent can adopt their new furry friend directly from the hotel. The hotel and shelter, of course, have each pup’s health and well-being in mind so they do reserve the right to deny any request that they deem necessary. However, they know that the majority of people have the best intentions and will spoil the doggos with the love they deserve.
