10 Reasons We Want Someone To Open A Dog Café

| Published on January 24, 2016

It’s a new year, which means people are planning their resolutions. Is yours to start a dog-based business, but you aren’t sure what kind you want? There are lots of dog groomers, pet supply stores and the like. So you are probably thinking you want something different. If so, we think someone needs to open a dog café! We have 10 reasons (some silly, some serious) on why someone should open a dog café in 2016. Would you go to a dog café? Tell us in the comments!

#1 – Helps more rescues find homes

Spending time with a dog in a setting such as a café will greatly increase his chances for adoption. After all, how could you not take him home after sharing a scone?

#2 – Dogs are friendlier than cats

If cat cafes can find cats that are friendly enough to hang out with a bunch people, just imagine how easy it would be to find dogs to do the same!

#3 – Some people are allergic to cats

Where are the people with cat allergies supposed to go to get a “pet fix”? A dog café would solve that quandary.

#4 – Groundwork’s been laid

People who have opened cat cafes have done the hard work of figuring out how to have animals and food cohabitate the same locale. This means you can use their models and won’t have to do so much planning. And, you can cite them as examples when you go to get your permits.

#5 – Cat cafes have been successful

There is already proof that the business model works with cats – so half your work is done. That should make it easier to convince the bank to give you a business loan.

#6 – Lowers blood pressure

Like cats, dogs help relieve stress and lower blood pressure so it’s a good thing to have in any community.

#7 – Provide a way to promote special needs and senior adoptions

While these animals don’t get a lot of “press” or “showtime” at shelters, a dog café could highlight these types of dogs. Spending an hour or two with them may help a lot more people adopt a special needs or senior dog when they see for themselves how amazing they are.

#8 –  A great outlet for community education

Dog cafés would also provide a way to help teach the community about the importance of spay/neuter, as a natural fundraising site for local animals rescues and shelters, and a place to have dog ownership talks by vets and dog trainers.

#9 – Gives out-of-towners a place to get their dog-fix

Some people can’t travel with their dogs – people on business trips for example – a dog café gives these poor people a place to go and get some canine attention when they are missing their own dog.

#10 – Because we LOVE Dogs!

It’s obvious we are dog lovers, so why wouldn’t we want someone to open a dog café?! Just be sure to invite us to the opening should you make it happen.
