3 Things All English Bulldog Owners Should Know

| Published on January 19, 2017

It’s easy to see why people love the English Bulldog. Aside from their adorable looks, they have quirky personalities that make anyone who meets one an instant fan. But they definitely are a special breed with care requirements above and beyond the average dog. The following are three things all English Bulldog owners should know.

#1 – Their Vet Bills Are No Joke

Actually, many vets joke that their bully clients pay for their vacation homes. But in reality, owning one does mean you need to be prepared for costs. I know someone who has spent over $10,000 on her rescued English Bulldog, so it’s something to take into consideration if you don’t own one yet. If you already do, pet insurance is a very good idea.

#2 – They Are Determined

English Bulldogs can have a mind of their own when it comes to doing what they want to do, when they want to do it. Couple that with a low center of gravity and a solid body type, and you have a dog that can pretty much do what they want. Being aware of this means you can be proactive with your training to teach your English Bulldog that doing what you want is fun, especially when it comes to leash training. It’s best to start this when they are small and not as strong.

#3 – They Have Sensitive Stomachs

These Bullies can clear a room quicker than you can say “dog food.” They have very sensitive stomachs and if you are feeding them the wrong kibble or something they are allergic to, you will know it… and quickly. One way to help them be gas-free is to feed them high-quality food without a lot of fillers. In addition, getting yours checked for allergies is a good idea too, so you can avoid any food that will make his tummy upset.
