Abandoned Street Dog Receives A Life-Saving Transformation

| Published on January 23, 2016

Joey, who was abandoned to the streets had lost all hope until one hair cut changed his life.

Joey was found wandering the streets of Orange County, California only three months ago when OC Animal Care, an animal shelter that promotes responsible pet ownership through public education, community outreach programs and shelter events, picked him up. His hair had been heavily matted and dirty from neglect. He was found at a common dumping ground for dogs so likely he once had a home.

His disposition seemed almost feral having spent so much time without love and human contact. People just don’t look at dogs at the shelter that seem fearful, aggressive or “ugly.” The likelihood of adoption in his condition was slim to none.

Then, OC Animal Care teamed up with Hollywood Rescue Grooming, a nonprofit mobile grooming company that travel to shelters transforming dogs through expert grooming to help them get adopted. They were coming out for just one day, to get as many dogs groomed as they could.

What a DIFFERENCE a groom makes!

After Joey was groomed, he was visibly relieved. He was finally free of his painful, matted fur and receiving attention that he had longed for – for what seemed like ages. His transformation was not just on the outside but reached within him as well.

That day, Hollywood Rescue Grooming cut, groomed, spruced and glammed up 56 dogs and since then all have found homes, including Joey.

Kudos to the OC Animal Shelter and the Hollywood Rescue Grooming group for the amazing work they do. Every dog deserves a second look, a second chance and a second home! Please share Joey’s story to inspire everyone to adopt.
