Michaelangelo Augustine, nicknamed “Mikey Gus” is just like any other German Shepherd. Just like any other dog, he loves to play, explore, and cuddle.

He lives in Indiana with two other dogs, Temperance and Spartacus, and his human family.

There is something different about Mikey Gus, though – he’s a miracle.

Diagnosed at only 4 months old with dwarfism, Mikey Gus’ family was told to expect the worst. His leg bones would grow with deformities, and as he grew and gained weight, he wasn’t expected to be able to walk. Life expectancy for dogs with his condition is only two years – not long at all. Lesser families would consider taking easier routes out, rather than deal with the negative side effects of his dwarfism, but Mikey Gus’ family never did.

When Mikey Gus stopped walking, the family would take him out in a stroller to get air and play. Temperance took on a motherly role and would watch out for him and make sure he got playtime. Eventually, with the love and support of his family, Mikey Gus began to walk again, and gets around great!

Mikey Gus has shown time and time again that negative “expectations” are nothing at all! He continues to charm people by the thousands with his playful demeanor and determination. Keep up with him and his family on Instagram!
