Love Your Pet Day Survey Shows We Love Dogs Over People!

| Published on February 22, 2016

In honor of National Love Your Pet Day (February 20th) Rover.com, the Airbnb for pets, conducted a survey that proves most of us love our pets more than the people in our lives! Let’s face it, they don’t talk back, let us complain about our day endlessly and love us even when we pass gas on the couch. There is probably not a person alive who would do the same.

The data was collected by Rover.com in a 2015 survey of pet sitters and pet parents.

  • 61% of pet parents would end a relationship if the other person did not like their pet. (It’s not you, it’s my dog. He doesn’t like you.)

  • 37% of pet parents would give up a job opportunity for their pet (Sorry, I can’t accept the job, my dog won’t like me being gone every weekend.)

  • 34% said they preferred kissing their pet over their significant other.(Maybe a breath mint would help?)

  • 25% said they suspect their family prefers their dog over their significant other (Ditch the husband. Keep the dog, honey).

  • Over 25% of pet parents have brought a pet on their date. (If you can’t handle my dog being on our date, then you can’t handle me).

  • 59% said they’d prepare a special meal on Valentine’s Day for their pet. (Sorry dear, but you are going to need to microwaves those leftovers, I spent all day on Fido’s filet mignon.)

  • 85% said that while browsing dating site, they are more likely to be interested in someone with a dog in the photo (Hey, for all your singles out there, this is a great dating site tip! For those looking, just be sure you compliment the person too — “Hey your dog looks adorable, can we meet?”)

  • 95% of dog owners said they would rather spend the night at home with their dog than going on a blind date. (Seriously, can you blame them…at least with your dog you know they won’t talk with their mouth full or talk about their ex the whole time).

  • Over 24% have planned special “dates” just with their dog. (Sorry, I can’t go out tonight, I have a date…with my dog).

  • 56% of pet parents prefer to share the bed with their pet than their significant other. (Look how sweet Fluffy is on your pillow. The couch is free.)

  • Almost 70% of people would choose time with their dog over “alone time” with their significant other. (Not to night dear, I’m cuddling with Chester.)

45% of people spend more money on their pet each month than their significant other. (No, I can’t buy you that diamond necklace, Lucy needed a new diamond collar.)
