My baby Louis was just diagnosed with the beginnings of a collapsed trachea. Is there anything I can do to make his situation better?

Hello! First let me say I’m so sorry your fur baby has to deal with this dreadful issue. As we are suffering through this right now, I can offer advice based on our experience. There is a surgery that can literally widen the trachea but your dog has to be healthy enough to survive this invasive procedure. Our 14 yo also has congestive heart failure and lungs that are too large for his ribcage so our vet fears he wouldn’t survive the surgery. To keep him going, our vet has put him on Lasix and Theophylline, which helps him breathe. We also have liquid Albuterol for coughing attacks. I wish you the best with your baby. I also want to tell anyone reading this – PLEASE STOP BUYING OR BREEDING RIDICULOUSLY SMALL “TEACUP” YORKIES!! Yes, they’re cute, but you’re creating an adorable puppy who’s bound to have health issues later. Their rib cages are too small for their heart and lungs and this is sometimes fatal. Ok, stepping off my soapbox. I wouldn’t be as serious about it if we weren’t going to lose our baby because of it.
