I might be old, but I love just as strong.

My name is Sassy. I had a pretty good life with my previous humans. One day, though, I had enough of the smallest human pulling my hair and ears and tail, so I snapped at her. My humans decided I might do better elsewhere, so they took me to this place with a lot of other dogs to try to find me a home without little humans. I didn’t like it there. I was older than most of the other dogs, and no one wanted to bring me home with them. Just as my luck was almost up, a nice lady saw my picture. She fell in love with my grey face. The next day she brought a new dog named Mary Beth to see me. We didn’t really care to much about meeting because we were both stressed out. The new lady had brought Mary Beth home from a place like I was living in. I heard the lady talking to one of the people that had been walking me about taking me home so she could help me find my forever home. I was excited about leaving that place with all those other dogs.

That night, the nice lady took me to her apartment. Mary Beth was there, and so was a nice man. I looked all around, thankful to not find any little humans to pull on me. I was very happy when they let me sleep on their bed with them. The next day, the nice lady and man took me and Mary Beth to the dog park. I heard her talking about helping me find a forever home, but I was already settling in with Mary Beth and her humans. Over the next few weeks, I heard the nice lady talk about me to lots of people. Again, no one wanted an old dog like me.

But the darnedest thing happened. The nice man started letting me sit in his chair with him and giving me nicknames! I liked it when he called me “eyebrows”. And the nice lady stopped talking about finding me a new home; she told me I WAS home! I was so excited! I liked my new family!

Just a month later, my new mom and dad brought home two tiny furry things. They stayed in a little box, and they made a lot of noise. Mary Beth didn’t like them, but I was curious about these meowing things. That was a few years ago. Now the kitties are all grown up, and we like to cuddle up for nap time. Mary Beth will play with them until we are all tired, and then everyone comes and lays down on me to sleep.

My mom and dad tell me how much they love me and how they are so glad they brought me home all the time. They also tell me what a good dog I am because I’m really laid back and calm most of the time. My mom even says sometimes that she can’t believe my previous family would take me to that awful place. But it’s okay because now I have a family that loves me as much as I love them. At night, right after we lay down, my daddy always puts his head down to me and tells me good night, and I’ll lick his face all over to tell him I love him.

Sometimes, things just work out better.
