My name is Vahalla and I’m a 10-month-old pitbull Doberman pinscher mastiff mix. My mom always says she never knew how much she truly needed me. I was born in California one of my moms friends was down there working and brought me home for her with him I made the road trip from California to Washington, and my mom was so excited for my arrival she couldn’t wait for the next day to come so I arrived in her arms at 3 AM one morning. What makes me so special to my mom? Well let me start my mom was diagnosed in March 2016 with cancer, she was in the fight of her life. She knew that she want to be but she didn’t know how much she needed me. From day one I knew that she needed some extra love and extra help. When she was really sick when she had trouble moving getting up and doing things I was there at her side faithfully. If she couldn’t get up I would stay at her side licking her and nudging her and encouraging her to get up after all I was still too small to help her. Despite mom in the fight of her life she was a go-getter, we did everything together when I’m camping trips, went to softball tournaments, spent time at the beach, and we likes to lay in bed and watch baseball which is my favorite sport. As I grew I was able to help my mom more and I did. I have never had any formal training teaching me how to be so in tune with my mom or what to do, it was just part of my nature and part of my connection with her to know what she needed even when she didn’t. Thankfully Mom is now cancer free but she still does get really sick and on days when she’s really sick I sit there next to her still encouraging her to get up. If and when she can’t get up on her own she knows if she holds my harness I will help pull her up to her feet and guide her back to bed or to the couch. I let her side and keep her company. On especially hard days she tells me I’ll give her a reason to smile as I will run a muck around the house just being my goofy puppy self. Often times I know what’s going to happen before she dies, before her body plan something for her that she doesn’t know was coming I want her to become especially cleaning anxious and whine and will guide her to a safe spot, this way I know I can keep an eye on her and keep her safe. If we’re with others I will warn them so that they can make sure she’s safe too. Today I’m almost 10 months old, I love balls to go for walks but dread the rain and snuggling up with my mom at soon as she gets home from work. I’m vivacious gentle loving an extremely goofy. Mom may not have known how much she needed me and perhaps I didn’t know how much I needed her, but we work so well together we fit like a puzzle pieces , and she has not only provided me a wonderful life, but I know that I have enriched her life and continue to give her hope and bring light into her life even when she struggles with her health. I know my mom is thankful for me beyond words and at being such a young age I will look forward to all the adventures that I have yet to live with her.
