Hi, my name is Katie, and I’ve been rescued!
I lived in a small village in Alaska where life is cheap and unwanted dogs are cruelly shot or drowned. I’m about two years old, and my entire life was spent in a crate out in the cold, resting in my own waste, to the point my limbs are a bit malformed. My ears are frost bitten, my belly skin irritated from urine. I was starved, neglected and abused. My litter mate died.
Fortunately, about a week ago, I was rescued and taken to a vet. I was so happy, I wagged & wagged my tail so much and hit the tip that it began to bleed! After getting my shots and being spayed, I was sent to Skagway, where my mom and dad saw an ad about me and knew they wanted to make the rest of my life a happy one!
Mom walked me home three blocks from the shelter. My feet were so unused to walking that they became sore and raw, but mom coated them with soothing coconut oil. I’m underweight and starving, but mom and dad are feeding me frequent small meals of good, fresh food to help me get better: beef heart, tripe, kidneys, sweet potatoes, spinach, banana, hard boiled eggs… I’m loving this new cuisine!
I have a new big brother and sister and a fenced yard to play in, although I’m taken out on outings every day. My nose was raw but is now healing, too. I spent my first night snug and warm cuddled up with mom, but dad’s lap is safe and inviting, too. I’m a bit food aggressive, but mom and dad are teaching me my manners. I’m a sweet pup and trying hard. I’ve got a loving family showing me lots of love, patience and compassion. It’s so good to be home!
