An Ohio animal shelter knows all too well what it’s like to be overrun with homeless pets. Each of these animals is special and unique, with a lot to offer so many different families. Unfortunately, many of these pets are relinquished to shelters over the holidays when people become overwhelmed with family and travel. It’s not the pets’ fault that they’re given up, but sometimes the shelters have trouble getting people to come in looking for pets because of the bad reputation they often have.
Many shelters are overcrowded and people are often scared away with so many barking dogs. So one shelter got the bright idea to post a live stream of what it’s like to be a day in the life of a shelter dog. They shared a live stream all day on Thanksgiving on the Animal Charity’s Facebook and YouTube pages, hoping to increase awareness of shelter animals needing homes.
Thankfully the video gathered many viewers from all over and helped bring attention to animals that need homes, the hard work of shelter staff and volunteers, how overcrowded the shelters get and the idea that anything helps – financial donations, food, blankets, toys, anything at all. We certainly hope to see more videos of shelter dogs soon and are looking forward to the positive impact they provide.
