Nowzad all started because of the love of one dog in the streets of Afghanistan. The Royal Marines were stationed in Now Zad, Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2006. While the Royal Marines were there to provide help to the locals, they quickly realized that it was more than humans that needed their help.
A New Found Hope Inspired By A Life Of Tragedy
The sergeant of the Royal Marine unit befriended a dog that was being used to fight. It was his sad eyes and unconditional love that created a new mission like any other. That dog received his first name ever – Nowzad.
Nowzad’s love and companionship have fueled the mission of the organization that’s aptly named in his honor. Their mission is this:
“To relieve the suffering of animals in Afghanistan; including companion animals, working equines, stray and abandoned dogs and cats and all other animals in need of care and attention, and to provide and maintain rescue, rehabilitation and education facilities for the care and treatment of such animals with no voice but ours.”
Nowzad Needs Your Help
Once soldiers have left their duty station and returned home, Nowzad reunites them with the local animals they grew to love. Here’s where you come in.

Despite her life spent on the war-torn streets of Afghanistan, Kandy LOVES to play and snuggle. With a little help from you, Kandy can be relocated and given a new life. She already has her warm and cozy forever home waiting to welcome her in Wisconsin!
