Dog Stands Guard For Toddler Found He Abandoned In The Woods

| Published on November 5, 2015

In Jacksboro, Minnesota, a toddler was found abandoned in a hog pen in a heavily wooded area. But the toddler wasn’t alone, he had a guardian angel watching over him. His guardian angel was a female Pit Bull named Dixie.

The employees of Waggin’ Tails Pet Resort heard a child crying in the woods outside their building at around 8:30 am. Curious where the cries are coming from, the employees followed the crying sound which led them to the location of the toddler abandoned in an overgrown hog pen. However, the toddler wasn’t alone; they also found a Pit Bull inside the pen, who appears to be protecting the child.

The Pit Bull followed the employees as they carried the child away. It turns out, the mother of the child was high on meth when she took her child to the woods and left him there. The child’s mother was charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect. The child is now in the custody of the Department of Children’s Services.

On the other hand, the Pit Bull named Dixie, belonged to a neighbor who was out of town. However, Dixie is now missing and her owner has been looking for her everywhere.

According to Dixie’s owner, Charles Pittman, Dixie looks like a Brindle Pit but she’s more of a light brown with white on her. Unfortunately, Mr. Pittman has no photo of Dixie. But the Pit Bull pictured above, which is owned by someone at Waggin’ Tails, looks very similar to Dixie.

So if you see a stray dog that looks like the one pictured above, please contact the Campbell County Animal Shelter at 423-566-1892.
