Playing Dog Whisperer isn’t usually a part of your typical police officer’s day, but for one Massachusetts man it’s become quite normal. Evan Lavigne of Taunton, Massachusetts was on duty when he received a call about a lost dog being held at a local bank. Patrolman Lavigne went to take a look at the dog while the dispatcher got ahold of animal control. But when Lavigne met the wandering Pit Bull, everything changed.

After greeting the friendly pup, Lavigne loaded him in his patrol car to take him to animal control, but he found no one on duty there. Not wanting to leave him abandoned, Officer Lavigne decided to take matters into his own hands. He took a selfie with the pup and asked the department’s social media manager to post it on their Facebook page.

TODAY interviewed Patrolman Lavigne, where he said, ““I felt bad just leaving him, not knowing what was going to happen. He was one of the friendliest dogs I’ve ever met. I asked the gentleman who runs our Facebook page if he might be willing to put the photo on there … Even if the owner wasn’t following us, his family or friends might be.”

His plan worked! Animal control located the pup’s owner and everyone was reunited. But that isn’t where the story ends. About one week later another lost dog turned up a convenience store. After picking him up, Officer Lavigne did he usual – he took a selfie. It did the trick just like last time and the lost dog and his owner were brought together again.

Office Lavigne is now known as “The Dog Whisperer” and is the go-to guy for all dog-related calls that come in. Lavigne enjoys the title and the new job duty. “If it were my pet, I would want someone to make sure he was OK and that someone would take care of my dog until I was able to find them,” he told TODAY. We know we couldn’t be happier to see a police officer doing such amazing work and helping lost pets and their owners find each other again.
