By now everyone, even non-dog owners, know the healing power of dogs. Therapy dogs are being used around the world in hospitals, children reading programs, retirement facilities, hospice, etc., to help ease people who are in emotional or physical distress.
However most schools do not allow dogs except service dogs to be in the building during school hours. Until now.
Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, New Jersey invited therapy dogs into the building during finals week to help students deal with stress.
“Just like petting him and stuff right now. I’m kind of like forgetting that in about 10 minutes I’m going to have to go to my final for about 15% of my grade,” said freshman Zach Fessler told CBS2’s Cindy Hsu.
The Therapy dogs were in the gym, and students were able to come and visit with them all week.
This same group of therapy dogs helped out victims of the Newtown shootings.
What do you think about bringing therapy dogs into high schools for tests? Yes or no? Should the school counselor have a therapy dog year around? I know I would have visited the office more often is my counselor had had one!
