You have probably seen this toy at your local pet store it’s been around for years. But what make the hollee roller so amazingly awesome is its versatility! It’s not just a rubber ball with lots of holes – using a bit of creativity and imagination it just might be the only toy you need to keep your dog occupied for hours!
Here are 15 ways your dog can play with this amazing toy. (not craft-minded? Don’t worry, many of these variations are for sale on Etsy and other sites).
#1 – As a ball
In its basic form, the toy is a ball that your dog can play fetch with, carry and roll around. It’s comes in several sizes.
#2 – Add a Squeaky Tennis Ball
Buy a squeaky tennis ball that is bigger than the holes on the toy – stretch a hole to get the ball in and voila! You have a ball-in-a-ball toy that will keep your dog busy for hours. The fact the tennis ball squeaks just makes it more fun for a dog who manages to “catch” the tennis ball inside.
#3 – Add Several Tennis Balls
You can up the fun by adding a few large tennis balls into the larger Hol-ee Rollers.
#4 – Add small stuffies
In the larger Hol-ee Rollers, you can create your own “hide and seek” toy but stuffing soft toys in that are big enough to stay in the holes, but small enough your dog can pull them out with a bit of work.
#5 – Add Ice Cubes
Is it heating up where you live? Put some plain or flavored ice cubes inside the roller and let your dog fish ‘em out!
#6 – Add a Rope
Tie long piece of string of paracord to the Hol-ee Roller and then attach the other end to a piece of ¼ inch PVC pipe and you have a “flirt pole” for your dog.
#7 –Add a Chewie
The smart people at WHIMZEES have realized the versatility of this toy and have started to market it as a great chew holder. Simply place a WHIMZEE (or other treat) into the Hol-ee Roller that best fits and you just made that treat last a whole lot longer!
#8 – Add a Tug
Take a few strips of fleece, run them through part of the Hol-ee Roller and then braid the fleece into a tug!
#9 – Removable Tennis Balls
Another take on the tennis ball game? Put small tennis balls in a large Hol-ee Roller so your dog can get them out.
#10- Chew n Tug
Run a fleece tug through the center of a Hol-ee Roller and then tie each end in a big enough knot that the roller can’t come off. Now your dog can fetch, tug or chew!
#11 – Treat Dispenser
Take a tennis ball, slice it open and put some treats inside. Put this inside the Hol-ee Roller. Now when your dog tosses it, pushes, it etc., treats will come out!
#12 – Hide-a-Chew
Put a chew inside and then stuff the roller with toys or pieces of fleece he has to pull out before he can find the chew. Can also do the same thing with treats.
#13 –Braided Ring
Braid some fleece, string a Hol-ee Roller (or two or three!) onto it and then tie the fleece together to form a ring.
#14 – A Roller-in-a Roller
You nestle the smaller Hol-ee Roller inside the larger one. You could even put treats inside of those or toys for your dog to pull out.
#15 – Toss ‘n’ Grab
Tie paracord with strong knots to several places to give your dog “handles” that he can use to grab onto the roller easier. Can make it easier to play a tugging game with your dog.
