15 Best Dog Foods for Weimaraners with Allergies

Raw feed. We had a very allergic girl & the vet did tests on her, there was no manufactured food she could eat. After trawling the internet and spending my days making barley pudding with milk (bizarrely not allergic to milk and barley was the only cereal she could eat! couldn’t even have potatoes!) we went back to the vet, I took a deep breath and said what do you think about raw feeding? The vet was instantly can you manage it? I said I can learn!! So we joined a raw feeding group and off we went! It’s actually easier now because you can buy it! I spent weeks, some mornings blitzing a whole herring to give her, coming up with different meals, finding butchers that didn’t cost the earth! Best thing we ever did for her! She lived until she was 11, she had a dreadful heart murmur and eventually passed away with heart failure but until that point she had no further tummy issues and was as fit as a fiddle, always running with our other dog and playing

I give my animals a can of sardines every now & then. I also feed Supreme Source salmon. She’s skinny though. Every now & then she gets a piece of cheese. We didn’t do well with another dog food for allergies. It was a Purina brand. She had a lot of coat issues.

I’d consult with your vet and ask to do a hydrolyzed diet trial. That means at least 8 weeks on the hydrolyzed food. No treats, human snacks, etc. and no chewable heartworm/flea meds. Then they can guide you through the rest. Also get scheduled into a veterinary dermatologist if necessary. The blood allergy tests for food allergies are not reliable. Only the hydrolyzed diet trials are. I spent thousands on my girl’s allergies.

Years ago had Weim with allergies and moved him to raw. Allergies cleared up along with his smelly ears and his coat became shinier and softer. Since then, all my weims are fed raw. Maybe investigate it for your Weim. Good luck!

My dog is allergic to beef, chicken, eggs, grains, wheat, fruits, any pet foods from grocery store. Had her tested at the vet. Turns out she’s allergic to everything BUT deer and rabbit. She can only have deer and rabbit meats. I buy those sometimes from meat company. It is pricey. Vet has her on hypoallergenic dog foods. Finally she’s able to eat, normal poop. Some days her stomach upsets from eating Grass (allergic to grass!!!) So adding a pouch of fiber to her meal to calm her upset stomach. Hope this helps

Our Riley was like that. We did Limited Ingredient Salmon and Potato dog food or Salmon and Pea. We would add plain Greek yogurt for gut health.

Go to a Dermatology Center and get allergy tested… my weim was allergic to 14 different things… none were food. We had done the food test prior too. A lot of them were seasonal, but one was wool… so we packed away all of our wool things. That alone helped a ton. They also put us on Apoquel which, for her, was a life changer.

My gal had mast cell reaction and cancer so she was allergic to just about everything. The only food she tolerated was RX Royal Canin Ultamino . it’s hydrolyzed protein. We couldn’t even give her treats of really any brand or she would get really sick. She would do ok with small amount of bread tho.
