15 Dog Breeds That Love Snuggling

Most dogs, regardless of breed, love some amount attention, it’s one of the reasons we have them as pets! But certain breeds seem to just live for snuggling – their main goal in life is to be as close to their humans as possible. If you are looking for a dog breed that loves everything from lap sitting to spooning in bed, these breeds are for you!

#1 – American Staffordshire Terrier

This dog doesn’t realize he is big – he will cram himself on your lap and shower you with kisses if you give him even an inch of space. He loves to spoon in bed too, so you will never be cold even on winter nights.

#2 – Italian Greyhound

These little guys are “Velcro dogs.” They aren’t happy unless they are on your lap or snuggling up against you and can be quite vocal when demanding attention. They do need exercise, however, so not a complete couch potato.

#3 – Bichon Frise

The Bichon is definitely known for being a lover. Like most little dogs, he loves a lap. He also won’t mind sharing the bed with you, or snuggling up right next to you on the couch, should your lap be full.

#4 – Pug

The tenacious pug had to be on this list! Everyone knows the pug loves love. Whether it’s sitting on your lap, cuddling in bed or lunging on the couch, he’s down for any of it.

#5 – Great Dane

Don’t think you can snuggle a massive dog? The Dane begs to differ. They love human contact so much, they will lean on someone ten seconds after meeting them. They don’t know they’re not lap dogs, so be warned, they will try to sit on your’s!

#6 – Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

This sweet dog loves a lap and wouldn’t mind you petting him all day long. They are a very affectionate breed and make good therapy dogs due to their sweet and loving temperament.

#7 – Boxer

Although high in energy, the boxer also loves to cuddle after a great play session. Another big dog that will try to fit on your lap, your boxer won’t let there be any daylight between him and you.

#8 – Affenpinscher

This affectionate breed is thought of as more human than canine. They can be willful where training in concerned, but they are not stingy when it comes to giving or receiving love. You can be sure your Affie will love to snuggle, even if you can never get him to sit-stay.

#9 – Icelandic Sheepdog

This adorable and rare breed just loves people! They excel as therapy dogs because they will take attention all day long and still want more at night. Hard to find outside of Iceland, they are worth the search if you are looking for a trainable, energetic snuggler….and you don’t mind barking.

#10 – Xoloitzuintli

If you want a snuggler without the shedding, this breed is for you! They can be a bit difficult to train, but their loyal nature makes them a great snuggling partner. (Of course, they may just be using to keep warm since they have no fur.)

#11 – Boston Terrier

The Boston Terrier is known as a happy, friendly dog that demands attention. You don’t feel like snuggling tonight? Too bad, you’re snuggling anyway! He will force himself onto your lap and expect some pets in return for gracing you with his adorable presence.

#12 – Coton De Tulear

The AKC describes this adorable white puff as “born to love and be loved.” And it’s true. They are not happy unless they are with their family, and while energetic, they love a good lap and snuggle.

#13 –  Newfoundland

This giant dog may drool in your bed and on your couch….but he won’t mind. He loves people and wants to be right there, snuggling with you. With all that fur, he may not be as inclined to snuggle in the middle of the summer, but he will definitely keep you warm on winter nights.

#14 – Chinese Crested

The Chinese Crested loves to be with his humans. Very trainable, they do well in sports where they can interact with their owner such as agility and obedience. They are gentle with children and will snuggle with anyone who has a lap available.

#15 – English Toy Spaniel

This cute spaniel really does look like a stuffed toy to be cuddle with and he’s okay with that. They love humans (including kids) and will want to be with you all the time. So be ready to make room next to you or on your lap wherever you go, because he will expect to be right there too.
