3 Signs Your Pug Needs More Exercise

| December 12, 2016

We all love our Pugs dearly, but sometimes our love comes with too many cookies and cuddles and not enough exercise. While you don’t want your Pug to overextend on exercise because they can overheat and have trouble breathing, you also want to make sure you are giving them enough activity – both physical and mental. Not sure if your Pug is getting enough? Here are 3 signs your Pug needs more exercise.

#1 – Overweight

Pugs are definitely prone to obesity, which causes all sorts of health issues. If your Pug has lost all definition and has no defined waist, it’s time to increase the exercise. Be sure to talk to your vet about diet and any medical issues that might be causing the weight gain, as well.

#2 – Destructive Behavior

Though tiny, Pugs are easily capable of making a mess if they have too much pent-up energy. If yours is chewing on your shoes or unraveling your toilet paper, she probably needs more exercise of the mental and physical type. Training is great for this as it provides both types of activity.

#3 – Pestering

Does your Pug follow you around, toy in his mouth, or maybe just whining and nudging you? If so, she may be trying to tell you she is bored. This is a much nicer way of letting you know than destructive behavior, which may follow if you ignore these signals. Some will even push their face into yours when you are sitting down, forcing themselves into your lap so you cannot ignore them. This is a not-so-subtle request for more activity.
