I volunteer at our local humane society, but is there any website, or phone number, to contact, where I can get involved with helping abused dogs heal, besides fostering? I’d like to be on sight in a rescue vet’s office, or even help with rescuing these animals personally. I’m not a vet tech, and I do not have any veterinary credentials, I just love dogs.

I think you should dog groups that actually call themselves rescues. That might help you find what you are looking for. Good luck!

The Animal Rescue Corp out of Washington DC goes all over the U.S. And is always in need of volunteers. You can google them to get more information.

I’m not sure where you are but most of the rescues in my town have lots of volunteer opportunities. For example, if you can’t foster, you can take foster dog to adoption events to give the foster a break, you can work intake — helping shampoo, brush,l ove the new dogs that arrive. You can do local transport — I do this a lot! Dogs in foster or arriving all need someone to drive them around. Yesterday I picked up an owner surrender from someone and brought it to a rescue. Every weekend I volunteer for a transport bringing dogs from kill shelters to safe rescues.I fall in love every weekend.

PS we have a few rescues here that have a hospice program as well for teminal or seniors .. these are my favorites! They even have hospice playdates.
