When you’re having a bad day, few things feel better than burying your face in the fur of your fuzziest friend! It may be the love your pup radiates from every inch of their body, but a soft coat is a definite bonus!
These pups have lots of fluff for you to run your fingers through, bury your face in, and pick off your clothes.
1. Keeshond
A hybrid of several other fluffy breeds, including list favorites the Chow Chow and the Samoyed, the Keeshond is a big ball of fluff that needs daily brushing. It sheds its downy undercoat twice a year, the harsh outer coat puffs away from the skin giving the Keeshond its fluffy appearance.
2. Bearded Collie
Although this breed is an average shedder, careful consideration needs to be given when taking on the special grooming needs of a Bearded Collie. The happy-go-lucky breed needs daily brushing, combing out of mats and tangles before they get out of control.
3. Samoyed
This breed sports a dense fluffy undercoat and a heavy, harsher outer coat. Special grooming needs must be maintained such as regular brushing. Seasonal shedding occurs, but research has shown a number of dog allergy suffers are not affected by this breeds fluffy coat.
4. Pekingese
The name of this incredibly fluffy breed comes from an ancient city. The Pekingese requires daily brushing and combing to keep matting and tangles from forming. A double coat hides burrs, stickers and parasites well, frequent inspections are needed.
5. Chow Chow
What list consisting of fluffy dog breeds would be complete without including the Chow Chow? These balls of thick fur are, of course, heavy shedders needing daily brushing to keep their coats from exploding into another Chow.
6. Lhasa Apso
Living with a Lhasa in the early part of 1900’s was considered lucky. Today, these little good luck charms need daily brushing and combing of the coat is kept in its full form. Some owners opt for an easier coat, having it cut at the groomers.
7. Bichon Frise
Someone order a cotton ball with legs? The Bichon Frise is as close as anyone will get. Monthly grooming sessions are required for this high maintenance breed that is considered hypo allergenic.
8. Tibetan Mastiff
Labeled as one of the most expensive breeds, this mastiff requires regular brushing to its thick, massive coat. Although they shed their heavy winter coat once a year, when the weather warms, the shedding period often takes a full month.
9. Affenpinscher
Called “monkey dogs” because they look like little four legged monkeys, the Affenpinscher’s thick, harsh coat shouldn’t be cut short. Cutting the dog’s fur would ruin the coat for years. Regular brushing is required with occasional plucking by a professional.
10. Shetland Sheepdog
These miniature Rough Coated Collies have a thick double coat. The outer lining is harsh and straight, the undercoat is soft and tight to the body. Daily brushing/combing is required with a spritzing of water. They are seasonal shedders during spring and fall.
