Meet Echo, a Beagle who spent 6 horrific years locked in a cage. Luckily, she was rescued by the Beagle Freedom Project and this is her story.
Echo along with many other dogs are still being used to test products in China and many other parts of the world. The Beagle Freedom Project rescues dogs from around the world, and their work saves countless lives. However, for some of these rescued dogs, it takes more than food and water to start healing and Echo was very different.

The chemical that was used in “Echo’s” eyes during the chemical testing facility also made the little girl go blind. Echo needed a foster home to take care of her when she was in her new life outside the cage. Echo needed a medical checkup immediately. The poor Beagle needed to start a new life with a foster who could help her build a new life outside of a cage. That’s when foster mom Hannah stepped up to take her in and her life completely changed for the better!

Nothing had prepared Hannah for the responsibility of bringing home her first pet. Even Gigi, her own feisty pup, had tried to stake claim on Echo on first sniff. She calmed down quickly though, sensing that she’d need a friend who was patient with her many new adjustments to this new environment.

It took some time for Echo to accept her new life. Having gone blind is challenging enough but never getting let out of a cage is really tough. Thankfully, two days after arriving at Hannah’s, Echo began to shine! She showed her playful side and wagged her tail happily at her new foster mom.
