Our Military War Dogs (MWDs) risk their lives every day for us, and they don’t even understand politics or our ideas of “freedom.” What they do understand is loyalty, unconditional love, and a willingness to work. Banfield Pet Hospital recognizes this and so, for the New Year, they are donating Optimum Wellness Plans to 14 retired MWDS. In addition, they donated $10,000 to the American Humane Association (AHA) to provide additional care to MWD veterans.
“We are impressed with the work American Humane Association has been doing to bring military working dogs home, and their partnership with Banfield Pet Hospital to ensure these dogs have the veterinary care they need to live happy and healthy lives,” Lilisa Hall, executive director for the Banfield Foundation told iHeartDogs.com. “The Banfield Foundation is committed to improving the well-being of pets and this grant to AHA will help improve the well-being of even more veteran military working dogs.”
These 14 military working dogs will be getting a one-year Special Care plan. This means these dogs will receive, unlimited free exams, regular vaccines, diagnostic testing, preventive x-rays and electrocardiograms, among other services. You can see the full overview here.
While Banfield cannot give out the names of all fourteen recipients for security purposes, the following are four of the honored canines:
#1 – Matty and his handler Brent
#2 – Fieldy and his handler NIck
#3 – Cena and his handler Jeff
#4 – Thor and his handler Dino
Nico is another recipient. His handler, Sargent Calvin Aguilar, just took him into a Banfield this weekend. He was so grateful for the care, he made a touching slide show as a thank you. Below are highlights from it. (Shared with permission from Sgt. Aguilar and Banfield).
