I have a 5-year-old dog with no pre-existing conditions. Is pet insurance worth it, or should I just save for a rainy day? – Janet D.

I think usually worth it. We had a pet that needed a 10k surgery. Without insurance, it was a big expense. (That was over ten years ago, it would probably be twice that today). Today we have National Insurance and are pleased with it.

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance is the best

I prefer the saving method if possible. We did it with our Huskie saving 100 to 150|month and even though we had one major vet bill of 7500, it was still in our favor after 18 years.

Yes do compare. I’ve had pet insurance on my dogs and it usually pays for itself. I just get the accident coverage so that’s what it pays for but accidents can come in many forms. I highly recommend it.

I think it is well worth it ! I have all four of my dogs and my three cats in it. I had a kitty that developed a seizure condition and racked up over $15,000 over 4 years. My out of pocket was less than $2000. I could not have kept him alive without the insurance. I never want to make a life or death decision based on money. I highly recommend Pets Best Insurance!

Insurance, but first analyze the breed and feed it the best food for a carnivore. They need good nutrition!

Definitely save it for a rainy day…we have saved a lot already and besides it just keeps going up and up in price

With no pre existing conditions, I think it would be worth it. I use Trupanion and have been very happy with it.

Well worth it! When you have routine care visits, dentals, major ops etc! You don’t realise just how great it is to have this

We have it, if for nothing else, peace of mind. My girl was diagnosed with Addison’s Disease 11 years ago. After the deductible of $500/year, we pay only 10% of the bill. It would have been a real stain on our budget if not for the insurance.

Believe me, it is worth it. Shop around and see which one best meets your needs. All it takes is one bad incident or illness and you may have to decide whether you can afford or not.

Get a Health Plan, the bills will always outweigh your savings!

We save for any eventualities. We had a policy for our last dog and when we needed to claim it was turned down

Definitely open a separate account for pet care. Don’t give to insurance companies. If you don’t need it, it’s gone. If you need it you can deal with it yourself. Insurance is betting on having health issues and some may still not be covered. Limits to claims and deductible. Bank it and it’s still your money.

I have a six year old Doodle who was healthy until the beginning of the year. It is only March and he’s already been thru his annual 15K max benefit. All that time I paid for the insurance was well worth it. I never would have thought that a six year old dog would need so much care.

I paid approximately 9K in premiums over a 10 year period for my German Shepherd. I never had a claim until a few days ago. I put a claim in for a $10,000 emergency surgery a few days ago. After a $1,000 deductible and 90% reimbursement of approved expenses I hope to maybe get back around $7,000. So basically I’ve paid out more over the years than I’ll get back. That being said, you never know what is going to happen or when. Why it’s insurance. I’m personally not disciplined enough to save in a separate account. I know many instances where insurance has paid off for friends I know. I personally think it’s worth having but I’d research companies. I use TruPanion.
