From the day I got Roxy she became part of my heart, came with me where ever I went. Wouldn’t settle properly with anyone else. If I even popped to the shops for 10 minutes what a welcome I got!! She’d be standing at the window waiting patiently.
Our trips to the vet started to get more regular, started off with her skin condition, we got medication for that. Then her joints started to trouble her. Each condition got worse but she was so brave and especially for such a young girl. We helped eachother through lifes hard times and bad times and we always managed to get eachother through anything. The vet was going to operate on her hip but when they done more x-rays they could see things had got worse, a lot worse. It wasn’t just one of her hips, it was both and her right knee. She was so good and brave through it all. It killed me to see her in so much pain. One night in particular she was extra restless, she couldn’t sit, lie down she couldn’t get comfy atall. Id increased her painkillers as the vet advised but nothing was helping. I called the emergency vet and they broke the news to me over the phone. The words every dog owner dreads to hear! Theres nothing more we can do for her the vet said. Roxy was on the highest dose of painkillers but they weren’t helping anymore. Roxy was only 5 years old, nearly 6 actually. I had to make that decision but I knew it was the kindest thing for her. I knew by the way Roxy looked at me, as if to say Please Mum its too sore now, I need some peace.
I stayed with Roxy right to the end, she took her last breath in my arms. But I could see how peaceful she looked. Roxy was pain free and would have met her two best friends who were already at The Rainbow Bridge. I just look forward to the day I can see Roxy again. She helped me through so much, I’m lost without her. She really has taken a part of my heart away with her. There will never be another that would come even close to how great Roxy was, we understood each other. I can only take peace that she is running around pain free like a dog her age should be. My heart is broken
