Chris served in the Army and the Army National Guard as a Calvary Scout. During Operation Iraqi Freedom he was deployed to Iraq. Since returning home, Chris has suffered from PTSD, anxiety and depression. He found GreaterGood.org partner, Pets for Vets® online and after talking with his caseworker he decided to apply. The ideal dog for him would be calm to counteract his stress but have enough energy to go on walks or runs and enjoy spending time together outdoors.
Alice came to Maine from Louisiana by Puppy Love, Inc., a nonprofit whose core mission is to rescue dogs from high-kill shelters in the south and place them in homes in the state of Maine. After spending time in a foster home, she became identified as a dog that may make a good match for a veteran. The Pets for Vets® trainer made an assessment and adopted Alice for training, specifically for Chris. She was a perfect match with a calming demeanor but still loved to play and spend time exploring outside. Now, these two are exploring life together.
Thank you for your service, Chris. And thank you for being there for him, Alice.
