A fur mom to an adorable Pointer puppy found herself in a stressful situation when her engagement ring suddenly went missing. She could have sworn she left the ring on the coffee table upon leaving the room, so she couldn’t imagine where it could have possibly gone; unless her furry friend had something to do with it.

After noticing that her mischievous pup Pepper was sitting nearby, she immediately became suspicious. The only way to get to the bottom of this was by taking Pepper to her local veterinarian to be checked out, so on the two went to the Valley Farm Animal Hospital.

Once the pair walked through the doors of the local animal clinic, the staff knew it was time to get to work. They immediately took Pepper back to perform an X-ray of her abdomen, and you can probably guess what they found.

“The easiest way to see if something metal has been swallowed is to take a radiograph. Sure enough, one quick X-ray of Pepper’s abdomen showed a very obvious ring-shaped metal object in her stomach.” – Julia van Draanen at Valley Farm Animal Hospital.

After Pepper’s secret had been revealed, it was time to come up with a plan of action. This ring could cause serious damage if it made its way outside of the stomach, so they needed to act fast. The team chose to give Pepper an IV injection of Apomorthphine, which is a medication that induces vomiting in dogs.

“There would have been four ways to get the ring back — we took the easiest as it was still in the stomach and not passed through to the intestines.” – Julia van Draanen at Valley Farm Animal Hospital

Within minutes of getting the vomit-inducing injection, Pepper gave up the goods! The ring made its way out of Pepper’s stomach and into the vet’s hands to be cleaned. Both Pepper and the ring were perfectly safe, though pepper was a bit embarrassed about the whole ordeal.

Pepper’s mom was so grateful that the veterinary team acted so swiftly, and that they were able to solve the dilemma without any surgery involved. Though this was definitely a story for the books, I’m sure Pepper’s mom will think twice before setting her ring down in pepper’s reach ever again!

We’re so glad that both Pepper and the ring made it out safely!
