Is there anything you can’t get on Amazon?
Perhaps, but those items seem to be far and few between. And in addition to supplying its customers with products from thousands of other brands, Amazon has created its own line of products — and now, that includes pet food.
Wag, a new dog kibble, is available to Prime customers. The brand promises that “real” chicken, turkey, beef, lamb, or salmon (dependent on the variety) is the number one ingredient, with no added grains.
For the sake of example, check out the ingredients that are listed in the Wag Salmon & Lentil recipe:
SALMON, SALMON MEAL, LENTILS, PEA PROTEIN, PEAS, CHICKEN FAT (PRESERVED WITH MIXED TOCOPHEROLS), BREWERS YEAST, DRIED PLAIN BEET PULP, FLAXSEED, NATURAL FLAVOR, SALMON OIL, SALT, CHOLINE CHLORIDE, DRIED CHICORY ROOT, YUCCA SCHIDIGERA EXTRACT, DRIED LACTOBACILLUS PLANTARUM FERMENTATION PRODUCT, DRIED BACILLUS SUBTILIS FERMENTATION PRODUCT, DRIED LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS FERMENTATION PRODUCT, DRIED ENTEROCOCCUS FAECIUM FERMENTATION PRODUCT, DRIED BIFIDOBACTERIUM ANIMALIS FERMENTATION PRODUCT, VITAMIN E SUPPLEMENT, IRON PROTEINATE, ZINC PROTEINATE, COPPER PROTEINATE, FERROUS SULFATE, ZINC SULFATE, COPPER SULFATE, POTASSIUM IODIDE, THIAMINE MONONITRATE (SOURCE OF VITAMIN B1), MANGANESE PROTEINATE, MANGANOUS OXIDE, ASCORBIC ACID (PRESERVATIVE), VITAMIN A SUPPLEMENT, BIOTIN, NIACIN, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, MANGANESE SULFATE, SODIUM SELENITE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (SOURCE OF VITAMIN B6), VITAMIN B12 SUPPLEMENT, RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), VITAMIN D3 SUPPLEMENT, FOLIC ACID.
Prices are budget-friendly too, with a 5 lb bag costing $12.99 and a 30 lb bag priced at $44.99. The brand’s Chicken & Lentil recipe for puppies also comes in the 5 lb size, but the bigger bag is 15 lbs for $26.99.
An article by CNN notes that the competitive kibble prices will likely force other pet food suppliers to lower their prices, just as Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods did to grocery stores.
Wag joins a handful of other labels founded by Amazon, including AmazonBasics for household necessities, Wickedly Prime food, Stone & Beam furniture and decor, and Presto cleaning products.
CNN reports that Amazon plans to expand the Wag brand to include more products in the future.
