Seeing everyday people go out of their way to help animals in need is always inspiring. These compassionate individuals provide much-needed safety and protection to animals, helping them return to their homes.
Recently, a bus driver exemplified this spirit by going the extra mile to rescue a dog stranded in the middle of the road on a rainy day.
According to the Milwaukee County Transit System, a driver named Stephany K. encountered the dog while on her route one rainy Monday. The dog was running loose in the street, narrowly avoiding being hit by multiple cars.
Recognizing the immediate danger the dog was in, Stephany decided to intervene. She made an unscheduled stop, opened the bus doors, and called for the dog, guiding it inside. The dog, relieved to be out of the rain and traffic, explored the bus and greeted the passengers.
Stephany then contacted dispatchers for assistance and allowed the dog to sit in the driver’s seat while they waited for help to arrive. Eventually, a route supervisor arrived to pick up the dog and took it to the Milwaukee Police Department, where it would hopefully be reunited with its family.
Stephany received praise from her company for her compassionate actions, which likely saved the dog’s life. “Thank you, Stephany, for your compassion and dedication to MCTS Excellence,” the Milwaukee County Transit System wrote on Facebook.
Milwaukee’s bus operators seem to have a knack for heroism. In March, another driver made headlines for rescuing a toddler who was wandering on a very cold day on the “most dangerous road in Milwaukee.” The driver, named Keyon, brought the child onto the bus and contacted the police, ensuring the boy’s safety.
