The Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue is one of the shelters that benefits from your donations through Greater Good’s Rescue Bank. They shared with us this story about Tahoe, a dog whose life was changed because of your help.
“In a car versus dog battle, the dog usually comes out the loser. Tahoe got a winning chance when a Good Samaritan found him beside the road and brought him to a local shelter. His rear leg was badly injured, with abrasions, dead tissue and severe infection. Luckily there were no broken bones. Because of his urgent need for specialized veterinary care, the shelter immediately contacted our rescue, and we brought him in.
“Our vet examined Tahoe and found a deep infection and many abrasions. He is on a treatment plan of massive doses of antibiotics, medication and daily bandage changes to stop the spread of the infection and heal the wound.
“Tahoe has moved forward on the road to recovery. He is living with a dedicated foster family who has taken over the task of the daily care of his wound with supervision from our vet. The infection halted, and the wound is rapidly healing. Tahoe is still on a program of antibiotics, and applications of medication to the wound itself with daily bandage changes. The best news is that his foster family has decided to adopt this beautiful boy. They had just lost their dog and didn’t feel that they were ready to adopt—until they met Tahoe. Tahoe is on the smaller side, and after having lots of big dogs, this family couldn’t resist one that actually fit in their laps, where he loves to be.
“The food donations from GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank have made a big difference in our ability to care for dogs like Tahoe. As is true with most rescue organizations, our funds are limited. The donations we receive from Rescue Bank free up funds that we can use to help with the medical expenses of the sick and injured dogs that are brought in to our care. We are very grateful, as this help lets us help others who need it so badly.” –Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue
