Penny was one of the countless dogs who were dumped in a shelter as strays at ten weeks old. She moved from family to family as she received re-surrendered to the shelter due to her destructive nature.

Penny was in dire need of mental stimulation, which is what she truly desired. She found the ideal individual in Leonora Anzaldua, who fell in love with her and subsequently adopted her.

To keep Penny’s mind active, Leonora decided to teach her how to sit. She started by instructing Penny on the fine art of sitting down. It only took three attempts for Penny to grasp the concept. By the age of eight months, Penny had mastered all of the basic dog skills!

She figured she’d take it to the next level and see if a dog really has the mental abilities of a toddler. She was teaching Penny to recognize forms with blocks. It didn’t take long for Penny to grasp the basics of shapes.

Amazed at how quickly Penny was learning things, Leonora decided to see if she could go even further. She bought some blocks of letters and started teaching Penny the alphabet.

Penny managed to master this, and she even knows how to spell her own name! Isn’t it amazing?! We think she’s a cutie! 🥰

Leonora filmed Penny spelling out her own name and made it available to the public. The best moment in this video is when Penny gets stuck at the letter “Y” for a split second, before completing the word! Click the video below to watch Penny spell her own name.
