Nervous Dog & Anxious Veteran Find Comfort And Calm In Each Other

| July 6, 2017

Part of each sale through the iHeartDogs store is donated to Greater Good, which helps support various charities like Pets for Patriots. Thanks to customers like you, happy endings, like the one below, are made possible.

GreaterGood.org partner, Pets for Patriots, helps military veterans adopt a new pet friend while giving the most overlooked shelter animals hope and a home. The project goal is simple: to fund as many veteran-pet adoptions across the country as possible, saving the lives of both person and pet.

Kayla is a Navy Reservist who deals with daily and debilitating bouts of anxiety. Perhaps it’s surprising to learn that she adopted a four-year-old dog who himself was extremely anxious and who showed previous signs of abuse. Afraid of men, belts, stairs, and so many other things, Sergeant Cowboy is finally learning what it means to be loved – and in doing so is helping his Navy veteran mom come out of her shell.

“I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better dog,” Kayla says. “I deal with anxiety on a daily bases and he’s quick to notice when something is wrong. He’ll follow me around calmly and let me hug on him till I feel better. While he learns what it’s like to finally be loved and cared for, he’s helping me with my own battles. I couldn’t have asked for a better dog.”
