As Dornellas was aboard his vessel, he observed a disturbance in the water and saw an otter desperately swimming towards his boat, fleeing from an orca. The orca’s dorsal fin was evident as it neared the otter. Dornellas was astounded when the otter leaped out of the water and took sanctuary on his boat.

In a state of disbelief, Dornellas captures the unfolding event on camera. He encourages the otter to climb aboard the vessel as the orca persists in circling nearby. The otter takes refuge on the boat for several minutes, ventures back into the water momentarily, but ultimately chooses to remain on the boat.
