Outside Dog Surrendered, Spends First Birthday Indoors With Loving Family

| January 4, 2019

Before Bobby was even a year old he was already living his life outdoors. Instead of being a treasured pet he was kept mainly for breeding purposes. Bobby hadn’t been indoors since he was a pup, he had no dog house and no access to clean water or good food. As the colder winter months approached, it became an urgent matter to get Bobby off his chain and indoors. His owners loved him and realized they couldn’t care for him the way that he deserved, and approached P.O.E.T. Animal Rescue in Garden City, Michigan to surrender him.

As a worker loaded Bobby up into her car, his owner tapped on her window. He asked her to please let Bobby’s new family know that his birthday is December 24th, because he deserved to celebrate his first birthday. She recalls the moment in a Facebook post:

“It was the end of October & starting to get cold… At this moment, there are so many dogs that need saving from this exact situation & here we had someone who was trying to change the destiny for this pup.

“After I buckled him in my car, his owner came & knocked on my window to tell me his 1st birthday is 12/24/2018. He asked if we would tell his new family because he deserved a celebration for turning one.”

Bobby arrived at P.O.E.T. underweight and in serious need of nutrition. His carers were advised to give him a high-calorie, high-quality diet to get him back on track. After six weeks in a foster home with a full belly, Bobby was able to be adopted!

Someone who calls him his best friend adopted Bobby; his new name is Sammy. Bobby is in training to work on learning to live indoors. He has a fur sibling who he loves!

The donated food from GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank was used to support Bobby’s weight gain in his foster home for six weeks before landing his forever home. Bobby was underweight and was advised to eat a high calorie and high-quality diet. He now weighs over 100 pounds and eats several cups of food multiple times a day. He is thriving!

Bobby was adopted in early December, and when the 24th rolled around, they celebrated his first birthday as a family with cake and new toys!
