Police Officer Saves Dog from Drowning

| March 9, 2015

On March 5, 2015 in Pinellas Park, Florida, Daisy was being walked by a family friend when she broke free and ran. Ultimately, she ended up falling into a lake.

Margie Malone called 911 after witnessing the dog fall in behind her house.

Pinellas Park Police Officers rushed to the scene, along with the fire department.

Daisy was about 50 yards from the sea wall and was clearly in distress – not swimming toward the police officers or firemen, according to the Pinellas Park Police Department Facebook page.

That’s with Office Butterworth did what he knew had to be done – he jumped into the water and swam out to the frightened dog.

“I have a dog,” he told the local news station, WFLA. “I wouldn’t want anything to happen to my dog.”

And this isn’t your average lake. According to Malone, there are alligators in it.

“He jumped right in,” Malone told the news station. “There’s alligators in there. I wouldn’t have jumped in.”

He rescued her safely and returned her to her very worried (and thankful) family.
