Alicante, Spain – Police officers arrested the 29-year-old owner of a Chihuahua-mix after he confesses to hitting the dog, reports Information, a Spanish news site.
Also arrested was a 27-year-old partner of the 29-year-old. They could not prove ownership of the dog, who had not papers or microchip.
At first, the owners had said the dog, Neymar, had fallen out a window, but later the man confessed that Neymar had run away the prior week and he had hit him to “teach him a lesson.”
The four officers handling the case had noticed the dog was shaking and his leg was hanging as if it were broken.
When the owner told them they could not pay for the medical costs, the officers step in and paid for Neymar’s treatment themselves. Neymar needed surgery for a fractured radius and ulna. He also has flooded lungs and was vomiting blood.
The vet specialist determined that the injuries could not have been sustained from a glass window. They were probably inflicted by a “hard thud and probably a kick.”
A Fairytale Ending
It gets better. One of the officers decided to adopt Neymar!
The former owner is being charged with animal abuse and was taken into custody.
