This Puppy Was So Traumatized She’d Soil Herself When Anyone Came Near

While this story starts out tragically, it has the perfect ending that will make you want to cheer! Rosie, a beautiful Spaniel puppy, was so badly mistreated by her previous owners that she would soil herself anytime someone came near her. In a TikTok video shared by West Norfolk RSPCA, an independent animal charity in the U.K., Rosie is visibly frightened and visibly huddled in a corner of her shelter enclosure. Rosie, along with her mother, Jessie, was rescued by the charity’s inspectorate a few weeks earlier. Both dogs were part of a group of Spaniels saved from horrific conditions.

According to the West Norfolk RSPCA, the dogs arrived in terrible shape—filthy, infested with fleas, and severely underweight. The charity described Rosie as the most traumatized of them all, noting that she would scream and soil herself in fear whenever anyone got close. What Rosie needed more than anything was to feel safe.

That much-needed comfort came from Emily Cole, the center manager at West Norfolk RSPCA. Cole formed a connection with Rosie, using patience and affection to help the scared pup start to relax and trust again. Through Cole’s gentle care, Rosie began to realize that she was finally in a safe place.

Although Cole couldn’t reveal much about the conditions Rosie, her mother, and her siblings endured before their rescue, she confirmed that it was far from ideal. “It wasn’t a good situation,” Cole told Newsweek. “They had no socialization or training, and none of them were house-trained. They were all terrified of people and the outside world. We can only guess what made them so scared.”

Despite the trauma these dogs have faced, the progress they’ve made at the West Norfolk RSPCA has been remarkable. “With love, slow interactions, and careful handling, they’ve all shown incredible improvement,” Cole said. “Rosie and her mother, Jessie, have had one of the most remarkable transformations I’ve seen in my 14 years of rescue.” The TikTok clip ends on a heartwarming note, showing Rosie sitting calmly in a shelter worker’s lap, a stark contrast to the terrified dog she once was.

Viewers on TikTok were both touched by Rosie’s progress and outraged by the cruelty she endured. “Spaniels are the most loving dogs. How anyone could do this, I don’t know,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Oh my heart, what these eyes have witnessed to cause such fear.” A third simply stated, “People don’t deserve dogs.”
