When Metro Animal Care & Control in Nashville, Tennessee contacted Rescue Rebuild, they were looking for ideas to help with the aesthetics of their shelter. They didn’t want it to look dark and dreary like some shelters, but rather, lively and inviting for prospective adopters. They had a lot of available room outside, but didn’t have the resources to utilize it the way they felt would best help the dogs get adopted.

A lot of consideration goes into aesthetics of shelters. You want to make it more pleasing and enjoyable to the eye, but you also want it to serve a purpose. For example, Rescue Rebuild built a pergola, which provides shade to those sitting on the bench underneath made of stumps found on the property.

Two walking trails were also added to the property. Exercise is vital, but being leash trained is very important. These trails provide the perfect place for the dogs to get both! Next, a huge photoshoot area was constructed to get professional pictures taken of the dogs.

These photos will be used to better present themselves in social media avenues, which is one of the best ways to promote any available dog or cat. Many other projects were completed to finish out this build—four exercise pens received dig prevention, which keeps the dogs from digging out of the pen and predators from getting inside the pens, as well as sun shades and fresh sod. Not to mention, there was new landscaping and renovation of two cat areas!

Adoption rates spiked as better, clearer pictures of the animals became available, photos that truly represent them and their personalities. The whole property got a facelift, making the outside ever so inviting to the public, which doubled the walk-in traffic. As always, the end goal is to get more animals adopted, and this build was a home run!
