The cruelty some dogs endure is unimaginable, and a recent case left many stunned by the heartlessness of one individual. What began as a disturbing act of animal abuse has, however, turned into a heartwarming story of resilience and a second chance at happiness. On July 17, the Humane Society of Atlantic County (HSAC), located in Atlantic City, New Jersey, was horrified by surveillance footage that captured a man throwing a dog over their shelter’s fence.
The heartbreaking footage showed the dog being lifted and carelessly tossed, landing painfully on her side. Even more troubling, the shelter revealed that this was the fourth time the same individual had abandoned a dog in this manner. The shelter urged the public to help identify the man, hoping to hold him accountable.
The dog, later named Snookie by the staff, was immediately taken in by HSAC. Her condition was concerning—Snookie had distinctive scars across her back, suggesting a history of abuse or neglect. Despite her rough past, Snookie’s story has taken a much brighter turn in the months that followed.
By September 20, HSAC had some wonderful news to share: Snookie had been adopted by a loving family in Texas! A heartwarming video posted by the shelter showed Snookie living her best life, running and playing joyfully in her new backyard alongside her new dog sibling. The two pups even have their own pool to splash around in.
In addition to Snookie’s happy ending, HSAC also revealed that the man responsible for abandoning her had been identified and charges had been filed against him. This news brought further relief to those who had followed Snookie’s journey and were hoping for justice.
Social media was abuzz with messages of support and joy for Snookie. “It’s so satisfying to know she’s now living a better life than her abuser!” one commenter wrote on their Facebook page. Another added, “Seeing her so happy in her new home brings tears to my eyes. This is the ending she truly deserves.”
What these dogs went through must have been terrifying and painful. That's why we're demanding true and complete justice for these pups and their family.
