When the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, received a call that one of their previously adopted dogs had been found as a stray in another state, they were surprised to see that it was Ava. Her friends there weren’t sure why anyone would want to abandon such a sweet girl.

This isn’t the first time Ava has been found abandoned and suffering. But despite being dumped and mistreated multiple times, Ava remains an incredible love-bug.

Now this beautiful girl is looking for a final forever home. (Editor’s note: We’ve been informed that Ava is not yet available to adopt, but you can donate to her care at the link below.)

It was back in 2016 that Ava was first found abandoned and alone in a field in Orange Cove, California. The poor pup was malnourished, underweight, and suffering from severe demodectic mange.

Mange is a parasitic skin disease caused by mites that leaves pups extremely itchy. If left untreated, it can lead to lymph node inflammation, emaciation, and hair loss.

That’s why Ava lost all her hair, and was covered in painful sores and scabs.

After another social media campaign, and local news coverage, Ava was able to find another family and was adopted in September of 2020. Just shy of a year after, Ava and her adopters visited the staff at an adoption event. Ava strode straight up to them with her huge smile and a happy, wagging tail.

Everyone was so excited to see her, and they were happy to believe that she wouldn’t have to suffer any more mistreatment or tragedy.

When Ruben Cantu, the animal care adoption supervisor from the Valley Animal Center was informed that Ava had been found abandoned yet again, he rushed to the phone to contact her latest adopters. While he wasn’t able to speak to them himself, Las Vegas animal control conveyed the message that her actual adopters had moved and left her in the care of family members who decided to “cut Ava loose” and then relinquish their rights to her.

“To hear that Ava was abandoned yet again is very disheartening and makes me sick to my stomach. She has been through so much in her life and doesn’t deserve this,” said Ruben.

It was Rebun and his wife who ventured to Las Vegas, so they could bring Ava back to Valley Animal Center, and attempt to find her the perfect forever home.

Now that she is back in California, they are focusing on her well-being and health. She got a nice, comforting bath, and underwent surgery to remove some masses.

This is now the third time Ava has been abandoned by her adoptive family, so it’s their highest priority to ensure that this sweet girl’s future does not include any more trauma or abandonment.

According to Rebun, Ava is great with kids and other dogs. You can donate to Ava’s cause or inquire about adopting her by visiting the Valley Animal Center website. (Editor’s note: We’ve been informed that Ava is not yet available to adopt.)
