Deity Animal Rescue, a Los Angeles-based rescue group, received a call about a dog in distress. He was lying motionless on the side of a building. With the cold and pouring rain, the team feared the dog was injured and in pain. Lindsay and Ellen from the rescue group approached the dog cautiously, using McDonald’s burgers to gain his trust and get closer to him.
The dog’s lack of fur on his backside and numerous calluses indicated that he had been through a rough time. After sitting with him and talking to him for a while, the dog allowed the rescuers to put a lead on him. It seemed as though he knew they were there to help and could trust them, but they allowed him to take his time and not feel pressured.
Eventually, the dog, later named ‘The Dude,’ stood up on his own. The rescuers were relieved to see that his legs were functional. He followed a trail of burger bits out of the bushes and performed a beautiful downward dog stretch, which was much needed after days of not moving.
The Dude was hesitant to get into the car, but after a police car came by, he decided it was the right thing to do and climbed in. He sat in the backseat between the rescuers all the way to the vet. The Dude was diagnosed with a bad case of kennel cough, a horrible skin infection, double ear infections, and dental problems. He had no microchip and needed to be neutered. The Dude is estimated to be around four years old and is described as one of the most majestic creatures the rescue group has ever encountered.
After receiving treatment, the pup was well enough to leave the vet and begin his new life filled with love, leaving his homeless past behind. He has been described as calm and respectful, greeting everyone he meets with a gentle demeanor. The Dude is enjoying being spoiled, receiving lots of hugs and kisses.
