GreaterGood.org and iHeartDogs have teamed up in support of an extraordinary rescue organization. The Second Chance Movement pulls high-risk dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters across the country and transports them to destinations where they can find loving, forever homes.

Houdini, Candy and Midnight are just three of the many lucky pets who received their “Second Chance” thanks to their efforts.

Here’s how it works:

Houdini, Candy and Midnight found themselves in over-crowded, high-kill Los Angeles shelters through no fault of their own. Each overcame various hardships from life on the streets to abuse and neglect before winding up on death row.

If not for the Shelter Transport Animal Rescue Team (S.T.A.R.T. Rescue), a partner of the Second Chance Movement, the wonderful lives they have today would never have come to pass:

Houdini

“Houdini was originally from a shelter in Los Angeles and had been signed off for euthanasia. START Rescue was able to get him out in time, and Houdini went on a transport to The Willamette Humane Society in Oregon where he performed his most amazing trick to date—he found the perfect forever home!” – S.T.A.R.T. Rescue

Candy

“Candy was on her last day at a shelter in South Los Angeles. She was a favorite amongst the volunteers and was fortunate enough to land a spot on a START transport to Oregon. Now she is in an active home and has a four-legged brother. Together, they have all the fun!”  – S.T.A.R.T. Rescue

Midnight

“Midnight was rescued from the streets of LA after witnesses reported he was kicked and beaten. START Rescue secured him a space in one of their transports to Oregon where he was placed with a loving family who has sons on a soccer team. Now Midnight is the new team mascot!”  – S.T.A.R.T. Rescue
