Hello, my Cocker Remi does not like people, at all! If someone comes over he barks aggressively, runs up to them, and acts obnoxious! About ten minutes in he will begin to calm down, but will never show any love or affection for other people. My husband and I are afraid to have anyone over because Remi’s behavior scares us! He has never bit anyone, but I do not trust that he wont. We are considering looking into anziety meds for him or doing some one on one training! Let me know if you have any advice, thanks!

I work at a doggie resort and we once had a bulldog with this kind of behavior but it was only with new people working at the resort. When a new person went into her room to let her out she would bark aggressively and/or growl at the person and charge them to intentionally scare them. Basically, she thought it was funny to scare people out of her room. She never bit but she charged and barked and growled and would even slam the door
In your face. What we did was just show her that we weren’t scared of her. After she got used to a person and realized they weren’t scared of her, all the craziness of trying to scare us want fun anymore and she would stop. Your dog may possibly be doing the same type of thing. I think looking into trading is a good idea in order to see if it is this type of behavior or if your dog just had an aggressive personality. And if you are worried he has the potential to bite someone then training is definitely a good idea. -

I had a cocker that was the same way. And currently I have a cocker/doxie mix that does this. What I learned from this is that they are not socialized at a young age. Do NOT leave your dog alone with small children. They WILL bite or attack a child if the child takes a toy or food away from the dog. Behavior methods should correct the problem. However, there are some dogs that just will never get it or are too aggressive. What I did was use a method that Cesar Milan uses and that is every time a person comes to my door, I physically BACKED my dog away from the door and told him to go to his bed. Then everyone IGNORING him helped tremendously But you have to do what will work for your dog. I would consult a behaviorist FIRST. Good Luck !
