Hello all my dog lovers! I have a few questions I need answered and hope you guy/gals can help me with? My dog Elliott is a Welsh Corgi mixed breed who’s almost 14, I know! 14 years old, time flies? I have been giving him Phycox supplements and 325mg aspirin with his food to treat his arthritis and hip dysplasia, he seems to respond okay to it, but I’m wondering if there are any other products that could be combined (safely) with these meds I’m giving him? He just got a cortisone shot last week and he responded to it really well, he’s up and moving like he was 5 years ago. I know steroid shots can only be given so many times in a year, but is it safe to continue giving him the aspirin and Phycox with the cortisone? At this point in his life I just want him to be able to have less pain and a good quality of life, I know his time to cross the rainbow bridge will come sooner than I’d like, but with certain meds I’m hoping this can make his time with me a little less painful. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks….Phil

Hello Philip, I have an chi/pom mix that is seventeen. He was a Puppy Mill dog, so his beginnings were not good. He has the same problem your pup has and I give him and all the others Glucosamine/Chondroitin capsules in their water. It has made a world of difference in them all. I have a few seniors and it really does work.
I hope this helps and get many more happy years to spend together. That rainbow bridge is way to close for me and mine, too.

      Cordially,
      M.Mick

A high dose of Glucosamine/Chondroitin with MSM & vitamin D3 (human grade 1500 mg 2 crushed tabs daily) is what I gave my Beagles. If you can get your dog to take them whole…all the better. I use Schiff brand because it has nothing harmful to humans. Dog specific supplements tend to have other additives and cost more. Walgreens has buy one get one free, that helps a great deal.

Oh the Move Free brand is an 80 count bottle so for the bogo offers you get 160 tabs dosing 2 x a day is a great buy. I take it for myself and it really works my Beagles were limping till I put them on it, now they are as if the clock had been turned back a few years.

I would never give aspirin, it can cause stomach ulcers very quickly. You can give the supplement with the aspirin yet, after about 3 days I would definately stop. Aspirin is for pain and swelling the Glucosamine/Chondroitin with MSM & vitamin D3 removes the pain and helps to rebuild the cartilage arthritis robs them of.

      All the best,
      J.Reid-English

Try an all natural supplement called Dog Gone Pain made by Harmony Company. I’ve seen results with my dog and Whole Dog Journal did a whole write up about it.

Our dog is is almost 13 and we give him a combination of Rimadyl, Rejuvenate, and Tramadol. It works like a dream. A year and a half ago he could hardly walk. Best of luck to you and your doggie!

If I were you I would try avoiding giving your dog aspirin in the long term as much as possible! It’s just like humans… the more we can avoid taking anti-inflammatories the better because they can have serious side effects. You’re better off trying natural dietary supplements.. Ortocanis sells a natural anti-inflammatory solution called Cortaflex which is supposed to work really well and doesn’t have any nasty side effects: http://www.ortocanis.com/en/complementos-nutricionales/182-canine-inflamex-solution.html

I had a siberian husky who had both his ACL repaired at age 7 and 9, eventually he had arthritis and his back legs grew weaker. A good pet store owner suggested this product: Centyl III, it isnin pill form and he easily took it daily. It made a huge difference for him. Not real cheap but definitely worth it. Good luck
