Bassett growls and shows teeth to husband

We have had our Basset hound 8 years and he is definitely a mamas boy. Sometimes when he and I are on the couch together and my husband leans in for a kiss he goes nuts like he get up and barks and growls and my husband. He doesn’t always do it and he has never ever done it to my daughter. What gives. After he does it he always goes up to my husband tail wagging almost apologizing. Why the aggressive behavior sometimes towards my husband.
