Hi! My name is Biscuit. My family found me at a local shelter. I was 3 months old, they were a family of 3 with a 3 year old boy, a 10 year old girl, and a mommy. At the shelter I was playful. Once I got home I was scared and even a little aggressive. For example, if anyone came near me while I ate I snapped. I was not a bad puppy; I was just afraid of losing my meal. My new mom also noticed that although I was usually comfortable around women and children, I was scared and snippy around men.

To help me adjust, for several weeks my mom wore gloves and pet me constantly while I ate. They spent all of their waking hours playing with me and loving me. This helped to trust that I was safe around them. Although I am still not completely trusting around men that are strangers, I have learned to cautiously enjoy the company of adult men. I completely love and trust my mom and our kids.

Growing up in this family has been a very special experience for all of us because since I age a little quicker I have shared milestones with each family member. When Jason was a toddler so was I. We played a lot together and we both learned about respecting personal boundaries. When Jillian was a teenager I had also grown into a teenager. We took a lot of walks together. She also enjoyed bathing me, probably far more than I think she should have! Now our mom is getting older and so am I. Although I am still playful and quite the huntress I have slowed down quite a bit and sometimes she and I just enjoy laying together while she pets me. It certainly feels good and I know it soothes her soul too. I can tell by the way she talks to me when she is petting me. I happen to know as well that she thinks it’s funny that I know longer race her up the stairs. One of the things that I think brings her the most joy is the way that I hug her like humans hug when she comes home from work because she knows that it something she can always count on.

I now have a dad too! The picture featured with my story is of the day of their wedding last month. I welcomed him into the family years ago and he is one of the few men I have grown to trust. I think my mom would not have married him otherwise :O)

All in all being a part of this family has been a beautiful experience for all involved. We each have loved by each other and we all feel safer thanks to one another. We are truly family and we’re grateful for it.
