Just dropped off my Girl to the Vet’s office. Our 3rd round of colitis dog diahera. Now she needs some IV fluids again. Has anyone delt with this with their Husky? I would love some input. We have done the antibiotics, steroids, surgery, Iv’s & Vet diet food. Nothing has worked so far. She had stomach paracites when I rescued her in January 2015, plus other medical issues. Just trying to work thru each issue & get my special girl happy & healthy. Thanks for your help!!!!

I have experienced a very similar problem with my 7 yrs old husky since Oct/14. It started with explosive, blood diarrhea. I chose the ultrasound route after trying antibiotics, probiotics and changing foods. She was originally diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease or possibly Hemorrhagic Bowel Disease. The ultra sound showed that there was really no issue. We have tried 4 different vet diets. The explosive bloody diarrhea has stopped however, after 6 months of being on antibiotics and probiotics and special diet her stools vary each time she goes. Sometimes perfectly formed and other times soft or really runny. The vet thinks that her condition is more psychological than physiological. Does your dog have anxiety. My dog is terrified of thunder and fireworks but she is also becoming more anxious about being out in public places. I have taken her off of the hydrolized diet and put her on a vet weightloss food because the other diets were higher fat content and she was gaining a lot of weight. It is surprising that a dog who is supposed to be sick can be gaining weight. I have also taken her off the antibiotics. She has no parasites as she has been dewormed several times over the past months and previously she was on flea, tick, heartworm and parasite control. It is a conundrum trying to figure out what is wrong. But if your dog has stress and anxiety i would talk to the vet about it. WHat kind of surgery did she have and how old is she? Also what area do you live in. I am in Western Canada. It was also suggested to me that my dog may have a protein allergy and that is why she was put on the hydrolized diet but it is a high fat content. I don’t want to end up with a fat husky. They also have a tendency to become hypothyroid. My older husky has pancreatitis and is hypothyroid.

My Baby’s Vet talked to a Dog Specialists at LSU (we live in South Louisiana) who reccomended specialized poop cultures which showed she has Ulcerated Colitis. We just started an 8 week compounded medicine. She should recover fully. We are also taking an anitbiotic & another round of de-wormer. She doesn’t feel up to par, but hopefully we will get there this time. Thanks for your comments. By the way, we are having 100 degree days here so we don’t stay outside very long at a time.

I hope your dog gets better. It is hard to watch them be ill. We are having weather in the 90″s here right now. It has been a warm summer. Good luck
