I put plain white vinegar in my dog’s water. About 1/2 tsp of white vinegar in 1 1/2 cups of water. I have a tan colored Chihuahua and it has completely stopped the tear stains.

I changed my white-faced shih’s diet for other reasons, and was surprised to see that those red tear stains cleared completely up, after years of trying every tip/advise i came by!

I started sprinkling soy lecithin on my Blenheim Cavalier’s food and her tear stains cleared up in a matter of weeks. The granules can be found in health food stores. 🙂

I use a product called Angle Eyes on my white poodle. I tried other things but they didn’t work for very long. It’s sold in pet stores or online.

Debra, I also use Angel Eyes on my toy poodle and it works great. Checked with the vet when I started using it about 6 years ago and was told very safe. Love the results. I get my supple off the internet which is sooo much cheaper than retail.

I had a Maltese for 12 years and staining is common with the breed. Not only do the eyes stain, but anywhere that is licked as well. We had slightly stained paws as well as stains where he licked around his face! I tried everything. Even had him drinking from a rabbit water bottle that had distilled water in it. The problem is the natural enzymes produced in their tears and saliva. However this problem is solvable. Go to your pet store and ask for a product called ANGEL EYES. You sprinkle it on their food. I put it on his dry dog food. It won’t remove the stains on the existing hair, but as the hair grows you will notice there is no staining. I only did this for about three months and there was no subsequent staining for more than a year. GOOD LUCK.

If you will take Vaseline and wipe it down the crease of the eye where the stain is it makes a barrier. So when the eyes drip the tear rolls down the Vaseline and can’t go through to the hair. This is a preventative measure to keep staining from occurring on the crease. I have tried Angel Eyes……..did not work for me. Best of Luck.

My mom used to have a white poodle & each night before bed she would take a Q-tip with peroxide on it & dab the area & she never had any discoloration.

I have same problem. I wash face daily and trim occasionally. Angel eyes and other brands have not worked. Someone said try distilled water for drinking, didn’t work. Grain free foods, no to that too. Vet said has to do with small tear ducts. I’m curious how show dogs never have the staining. Vet said surgery, but doesn’t recommend. Guess I can live with it ’cause Shatzi doesn’t seem to care and he’s just as sweet stains and all. Sorry no answers but know you are not alone.
