My girl is 7 and her gums are building up around her teeth. It doesn’t seem to bother her right now but I am worried. I don’t want her to need surgery but I also want her to be healthy!!! What should I do?

Has ANYONE replied to you yet? My Boxer is 11 and my vet said to ‘watch it’. She has the same growth. My vet did say if Scout (my girl) was younger, she would recommend surgery, but being as she’s 11, that’s sort of out. She also has arrhythmia and her thyroid isn’t functioning at full speed so she takes about 14 pills a day, plus a fish oil, but she is FULL of life. Being as your girl is only 7, I would take her in and ask how much longer I should wait BEFORE she needs surgery. Good luck! Aren’t they the best!

The same thing happened to my Silvie. However, instead of surgery I gave her raw beef bones to gnaw on…she just loved it. All of her teeth emerged from the overgrown gums!! I definetly recommend you do that over several weeks and just keep it as a routine!

my seven year old has the same problem. vet said to just keep an eye on it but apparently it’s common. if she ever has to go in for anything where they put her under anesthesia then they’ll snip it off.

This not uncommon in Boxers. My seven year male Beau had the same condition. His father before him also had it. The bad part about it is the condition creates pockets around the teeth and gums, possibly causing infections. The pockets catch hair and food among other things. My Boxer and his father had laser oral surgery to repair their gums. You may not think the condition affects them, but it does create pain. My Boxer was a new man after the surgery, even though I didn’t think it was causing him harm. He is happier and has more energy, and because it was laser surgery the recovery was quick. He has shown a difference, for the better. Brian
