My 5 year old Chihuahua-terrier mix has developed a skin allergy all of a sudden about two months ago. He was scratching and biting himself. He breaks out in red splotches daily and lately the splotches are raised like a blister but they go away. The vet put him on Apoquel which helps the episodes a bit but he still has the red splotches and itches. He is on prescription dog food and anything else I can find that is hypoallergenic (like shampoo). I’m at a loss as to what is causing this. Can anybody help me with suggestions of what to try next?

My chihuahua/beagle/terrier mix also has the same problems. I have concocted a recipe with essential oils and it seems to be helping. Don’t bathe your dog too often. If his tummy seems dirty, use a cotton pad and witch hazel to clean it. Also, it has become a wonderful bonding time for us every evening! My recipe:
2 T grapeseed oil
4 drops of pure, organic lavender oil
4 drops of pure, organic melaleuca oil
1 drops of pure, organic basil oilJust mix all the ingredients in a glass container. I use a ceramic condiment container from Pier 1. I dip all my finger tips and massage my dog all over, especially where she licks and bites. The oils should not affect your dog if he ingests it. I just make sure mine does not lick for a while so it can all soak in.
I get my oils from the Melaleuca Company or Plant Therapy
